Under the Sheriff’s Act 1887 the High Sheriff has a legal duty to appoint an Under Sheriff.

In many counties, the Under Sheriff is usually a Solicitor who will assist the High Sheriff with all matters shrieval. They also assist the High Sheriff with their installation and with the organisation of the Legal Service.

The High Sheriff will, at the time of their installation, also appoint a Deputy Under Sheriff, again with a view to ensuring continuity through their year in office.

Mrs. Sallie-Anne O’Byrne, a Director here at Wace Morgan Solicitors, has held the Office of Deputy Under-Sheriff since 2017, assisting the Under Sheriff Mrs. Madeleine Butcher, former Senior Partner at Wace Morgan.   Sallie-Anne assisted the High Sheriff Anthony Morris-Eyton with his Legal Service held at Shrewsbury School on 27th March 2022 and said “it was an honour and a privilege to be part of such a spectacular occasion”.

Sallie-Anne will take the role of Under Sheriff for the Hon. Selina Graham at her installation on 8th April 2022 and is looking forward to the year ahead.
