A specialist Shropshire legal group is marking its 15th anniversary.

The county branch of national organisation Solicitors for the Elderly cut a cake to celebrate the milestone.

Liz Holdsworth, who set up the group in 2000 and has acted as Regional Co-ordinator since, said that members were proud of their achievements in supporting the elderly residents of Shropshire.

“We are an independent organisation of lawyers, such as solicitors, barristers, and legal executives, who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers,” said Mrs Holdsworth, who works for Wace Morgan Solicitors in Shrewsbury.

“Our members have extensive knowledge of matters relating to health and social care and we have achieved some outstanding results for clients in the county over the last 15 years.

“Elderly people know that they can rely on us to represent their best interests as we all have expertise in this increasingly important area of the law,” she added.

The anniversary was celebrated at the first of four training sessions this year  at the Shropshire Education and Conference Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The theme of the meeting was dementia and included presentations by George Rook, expert patient, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and who talked about his own experiences and training to become a Dementia friend.

Speakers also included Alison Marpole, a specialist nurse practitioner and clinical lead for assessment and diagnosis at the Memory Clinic in Shrewsbury; Margerete Davies of the carers’ support service at Shropshire RCC; Louise Jones of dementia services at the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Kate Mitchinson, dementia support manager at Alzheimer’s Society

We welcome attendance at our training sessions from members of health and social care charities and older person’s groups.
